If you’ve never been, the 4th of July Fireworks display in downtown Boston is something to see. I’m not sure I’d recommend it as an annual thing; the crowds are horrendous, but it is definitely something worth doing once or twice. I’ve been once before, a few years ago, so this time I came prepared.

Lauren flew in for the weekend, so when Sunday rolled around, we packed up a cooler, some books, a deck of cards, a blanket, and, of course, my camera and tripod. The concert was slated to start around 7:30 and the fireworks after dusk. So, we walked out to stake out our spot at 2:30. Like I said, it gets crowded.

Hit the jump to see some colorful explosions. The full set is also on flickr.

They started off the display with a 4 minute preamble (see the video below), then made us wait another 30 minutes or so while a concert played before kicking off the full show.

Christmas was just a few days ago, and since I always seem to be fairly photo-happy while home for the holidays, this felt like an appropriate first entry into my new photoblog.

I’ve had a blog for a few years now, and it dabbled in repetition/commentary on some current affairs, served as a travelogue while I was in Australia, and was a random dumping ground for photos that I wanted to share. Well, I decided to give it a little cohesion and direction. So, now I’m dedicating this as a photo blog.

I’m not certain of the format yet, but I do know that each post will feature at least one photograph. I mean…a wall of text is just boring, right? Perhaps I’ll discuss why I took a certain picture, or what I was hoping to evoke in the viewer. Or maybe, I’ll just be documenting something that happened, or some trip that I took. Who knows?

A few posts will probably contain a short gallery at the bottom. But, for now, you will have to be satisfied with this picture of my mom cooking up about 2lbs of bacon for Christmas breakfast, and one below of some of our decorations out on the coffee table.
